Every now and then there come a time when you need some extra heat and you will need a propane heater. There are several scenarios in which this occurs. The first one that comes to mind is a room in your home that doesn’t quite get warm on those very cold days. Another place you might need to warm up is your basement in the winter. Do you have your workbench out in the garage? Well doing work out there or on your car when it is cold out isn’t pleasant so that would be a good time to use a portable heater.
What can you expect from a propane heater? First they are economical to use compared to electric heaters. Heating with electricity can get to be very expensive. Propane on the other hand isn’t as expensive, and burns much more efficiently than electric. Now a propane heater isn’t going to turn an artic chill into a day in Hawaii, but it will certainly raise the temperature to make you more comfortable.
When using a propane heater, you will have to use some common sense so you can operate it safely. Only use a heater in a well-ventilated area. You do not want to risk the build up of carbon monoxide fumes in a room. If you are using it outdoors, then you will not have to worry about this so much.
Make sure the heater you buy has several safety features with it. It should come with an oxygen depletion sensor. What this will do is to shut down the heater if there is not enough fresh air available to operate the heater. See if it will automatically shut off if it gets knocked over. Do not run the heater near flammable liquids or vapors are. For example, running the heater near old paints cans and solvents.
A good propane heater should certainly come with a 1-year warranty at a minimum. Do not buy a heater with a warranty less than that. Also check to see that it is CSA approved. To use a propane heater efficiently, it should also come with adjustable heat settings. It can be as simple as low, medium and high. You will want the ability to regulate the heat output when using it.
