Locating a good source for masquerade ball masks without resorting to internet suppliers can be a daunting task. Even at Halloween or during Carnival season, it’s unlikely to find an attractive, good-quality mask at a typical local store. The local costume or hat shop may have something appropriate, but if they don’t, or if there isn’t an appropriate store in the area, there are still options to get a great mask:
1. Local theaters can be your best friend. Look out for theater sales, or ask them when next they’ll have one. These are often done as fundraisers for the theater group, so you’ll be contributing to a good cause, too. Masks you find this way will often be lightly worn, but will be of good quality and appealing acomplia or rimonabant to the eye.
2. Research local costume designers in your area. (You can find this out by asking theaters or checking their flyers or posters for a costumer credit.) Call and let them know what you’re looking for, and inquire into any overstock or spare masks you might be able to buy directly. This is helpful for finding a brand-new, unworn mask, though you might be limited in design options.
3. Don’t underestimate the value of a good thrift store, especially post-Carnival or Halloween. Many people buy their masks and only wear them once before donating them. You can stumble over a gem at any store, but the thrift shops in wealthier neighborhoods with a richer nightlife atmosphere are more likely to have options in good quality masquerade masks. This can be an excellent way to find a truly unique piece.
4. Track down a mask-maker or costumer at a Renaissance Fair or medieval re-enactment event. These affairs are often open to the public, and the members here take their crafts and costuming seriously. These are the best for handmade masks.
