A fireplace brings added joy and comfort to one’s backyard living space. Many families have created great memories of gathering around the outdoor fireplace. One of the more popular outdoor fireplaces today is the stone fireplace.
With any fireplace they do require a certain amount of cleaning and upkeep and the stone fireplace is no different. There are several different ways to clean a stone fireplace. It can be very helpful to put an aluminum sheet under the stone fireplace grate. Be sure to remove the sheet and dump the debris after each use. This will help to keep the fire place clean and not be so difficult to clean. Keep a brush and dustpan near the fire place so you can sweep out the debris after each use. This is a good prevention method to decrease the chance for a fire you do not want. One of the ways an outdoor fire place is different from an indoor fireplace is the fact of not needing to have a screen. However if you have small children or grandchildren, a screen may be a good idea. If you experience soot issues with your fireplace a great remedy for this is to add some salt to the fire to get rid of unsightly black stains.
Clean soot off the fireplace wall by using a few homemade methods for cleaners. A gentle scrubbing with a solution of water and a light detergent seems to be the best cleaning method. If the fire place requires some deeper cleaning you might try mixing a half cup of sodium phosphate with a gallon of water. Use a soft sponge to clean the stone. You should wear gloves and mask when using this chemical.
Most people are able to clean their stone fireplaces without difficulty, however at least once a year you should hire a professional chimney sweep to check it over and to do a sweep. Stone outdoor fireplaces are lovely and can easily maintain there beautiful appearance for many years to come with just a little tender loving care.
I also recommend outdoor fire pits for your heating needs. They are a lot easier to clean and maintain than fireplaces.
